What are your legal obligations as a small farm owner to employees, apprentices or wwoofers? Do we need to pay minimum wage? Can room and/or board be included as compensation? Are you required to provide WorkSafe coverage? Our second in the Talks 4 Farmers series will answer these questions and provide information regarding employment matters in general and workers on the farm.
Our presenter is Era Law's Mark W. Hundelby. Mark is Victoria born-and-raised, and was educated at the University of Victoria. After spending his first years of practice in downtown Victoria, Mark joined ERA Law as a partner in September, 2014. Hello Fellow Farmers,
Want a better understanding of tax law, tax credits and benefits available to farms and to farmers? Are you looking for some tips and tricks on taxation and accounting for your farm business? Do you have questions about accounting best practices? Do you want to know what restricted farm losses are and if they can benefit you?
In support of local farmers and the local foodshed, the Sooke Region Farmland Trust (SRFT) is setting up several talks on the business side of running a farm enterprise. This first presentation is on farm taxation and accountancy. Look for other talks on employment law, marketing and business planning in the near future.
Our two presenters for this talk are:
Sasha Kubicek. Sasha is the accountant for several local farms and Saanich Organics. He has been in the accounting profession for over 15 years and co-manages Sea Bluff Farm in Metchosin with his partner Robin Tunnicliffe.
Felix Irwin, CPA, CA. Felix has been a chartered professional accountant with Jamieson Irwin & Associates in Sooke since 2004. He practices personal, corporate and trust accountancy and specializes in taxation.
